Syllabus

Credit:  1/2 Unit

Prerequisites:  Enrollment by invitation of the Art Department and the completion of Introduction to Art plus three additional art courses: to include at least one two-dimensional and one three-dimensional art course, and all available art courses in the student’s area of visual art concentration.

Course Description:  This course is designed for the serious art student.  Students will develop a contract outlining the work to be accomplished.  Through the work in this course, the student will learn to build and present an art portfolio, as required for admission to post-secondary art programs.  Evaluation is based on quality and creativity of work, written assignments, and tests.  This course may be taken twice for credit.

Textbook:  There is no textbook for this class.  All information to study for tests will be covered on review sheets and notes taken in class.

Grading Scale:  (Standard for all FHHS students)

            A=90-100

            B=80-89

            C=70-79

D=60-69

F=0-59

Components of Grade:  80% of the semester grade will be based on studio work, written assignments, quizzes and test (40% for 1st quarter and 40% for 2nd quarter).  The remaining 20% of the grade will be based on a final examination at the end of the semester.

Extra Credit Policy:  Extra credit is not generally accepted in this class.

Homework Policy:  Homework will be to complete artwork not finished in class that is needed for his/her portfolio.

Tests:  There will two unit tests and one objective written final examination per semester.  Quizzes are given as needed.

Grace Period:  Students are given a two (2) day grace period from the due date before work will have points deducted for being late.

Make-up Policy:  For each parent-contacted absence, the student has one day to make up missed work.  (If the student misses a day during a long-term art project, the instructor is not required to give additional time beyond the two-day grace period.)  If the parent does not call, the student is not allowed any additional time to make up the work.  All make-up work must be done on the student’s own time.  Contact me if time is needed at school to complete the assignment due to media used for the project/artwork.  Time can be arranged after school for this.
