Syllabus

 Credit:  1/2 Unit

Prerequisites:  Intro to Art

Course Description:  Students will explore a variety of techniques and media unique to three dimensional art.  Historical perspectives will be included.  Evaluation is based on quality and creativity of work, written assignments, and tests.

Textbook:  Art Fundamentals, Theory and Practice by Ocvirk, Stinson, Wigg, Bone and Cayton

The textbooks will be used in class and will not be issued to students.  All information to study for tests will be covered on review sheets and notes taken in class.  If a student feels the need to check out a textbook, he/she may do so upon request.

Grading Scale:  (Standard for all FHHS students)

            A=90-100

            B=80-89

            C=70-79

D=60-69

F=0-59

Components of Grade:  80% of the semester grade will be based on studio work, written assignments, quizzes and test (40% for 1st quarter and 40% for 2nd quarter).  The remaining 20% of the grade will be based on a final examination at the end of the semester.

Extra Credit Policy:  Extra credit is not generally accepted in this class.

Homework Policy:  If given, homework will follow the student handbook policy.

Tests:  There will five unit tests and one objective written final examination per semester.  Quizzes are given as needed.

Grace Period:  Students are given a two (2) day grace period from the due date before work will have points deducted for being late.

Make-up Policy:  For each parent-contacted absence, the student has one day to make up missed work.  (If the student misses a day during a long-term art project, the instructor is not required to give additional time beyond the two-day grace period.)  If the parent does not call, the student is not allowed any additional time to make up the work.  All make-up work must be done on the student’s own time.  Contact me if time is needed at school to complete the assignment due to media used for the project/artwork.  Time can be arranged after school for this.

Supply List:

#2 Pencils (3-4)

Roll of Masking Tape

18” Grid Ruler

3 Rolls of Clear Packing Tape

Roll of Saran Wrap (Sculpture II only)

Wood Scraps (4” square or larger for sculpture

base)

[Note:  There will be a fee for clay when students create Clay Sculpture]

Parent Viewer:  Projects generally take from one to 3 ½ weeks to complete; consequently, grades will not change frequently.  A blank space means the project has not yet been graded.  A zero will mean a project has not yet been turned in for a grade.
