The Four Components of CSC
1. Homeside Activities
* Provide a framework for discussions between students and caregivers.
* Connects classroom learning with "real life" learning.
* Helps build a positive school-home relationship.
2. School- Wide Activities
* Brings parents and community members into the social life of the school.
* Develops a non-competitive environmen that promotes helpfulness, inclusiveness, responsibility, academic growth and learning together.
3. Buddies
* Younger and older students working together.
* A whole school community is built.
* Older buddies experience responsibility and caring, make social connections, feel important and appreciated.
* Younger buddies build friendships with older students, learn from a role model, and receive one-on-one attention.
4. Class Meetings
* Provides a forum for studetns and teachers to reflect, discuss issues, plan, and make decisions that affect classroom and social climate.
*Builds commitment to kindness, caring and learning.
* Builds teacher, student and peer realtionships within the classroom.
* Creates a cohesive, caring and reflective classroom climate.
* Teachers goal setting, planning, decision-making, problem solving and reflecting skills.
* Teaches the importance of fairness, kindness and responsibility.
