HENDERSON WISHES A HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!
There will not be a newsletter next week due to the holiday. Our wishes for a Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! This is a reminder that we have school on Monday and Tuesday and are off for the Thanksgiving Holiday Wednesday through Friday.
REMINDER – NO SCHOOL ON FRIDAY
Your teachers will be hard at work as they have a professional development day. Their learning will include the following:
· Working with AIMSweb- - reading data
· Discussing effective strategies to teach reading and writing (2 books studies The Daily 5 and Cafe)
· Atomic Learning Breakout Sessions - Technology Training
· Non-Fiction Writing Strategies, planning, writing assessments
HAVE YOU EVER WANTED TO BE A HERO?
Student Council has an easy way to make this happen. Mercy Children’s Hospital Isolation Unit is in need of updating their DVD library. One of our Henderson families received wonderful care there and we thought we would help pay it forward. Many of the movies in the library are outdated and too young for the typical elementary student. New and unwrapped DVD’s are needed. We will also be collecting new board games and puzzles. These will benefit children that are still in the hospital, but not so restricted.
One more way to help is to bring in individually wrapped snacks and lunch items. The David C. Pratt Cancer Center is where children go for ongoing treatment. Many of the families come from around the United States and are at the center for six hours or more. There is food available but is not funded by the center. They rely on donations alone. Microwaves and refrigerators are available. Food donation Ideas: Easy Mac, Oatmeal, Ramon noodles, chips, crackers, cookies, candy, granola bars, juice boxes, etc. ALL ITEMS NEED TO BE STORE BOUGHT AND INDIVIDUALLY WRAPPED. Tax deductible cash donations are also accepted. All money will go directly to the cancer center at Mercy Hospital. Checks can be made out to “Friends of Kids with Cancer.” We will accept items until December 9th. All items can be sent to school and placed by the tree in the entryway. Any donations can make you a hero to a child in need! Student Council would like to thank you in advance for your generosity.
SW-PBS – School Wide Positive Behavior Support
This week we have been working on being respectful on the bus. That would mean we would stop talking, look and listen to the driver when he or she talks to us. We also learned being respectful is using an inside voice while riding on the bus to and from Henderson.

Henderson Staff Gives Back to the Community
Henderson staff donated $185.00 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation as well as donating $172.00 to the USO of Missouri in memory of one our custodians, Randy Barlow, who passed away this summer.
HONOR FLIGHT UPDATE
The final totals are in! Our students read for 1,150 hours and raised over $1,700 for Honor Flight. This will send three WWII Veterans to Washington D.C. in the spring. The other good news is we read more hours than John Weldon’s students. John Weldon’s principals and librarian will be wearing Henderson t-shirts to acknowledge our win. A big thank you goes out to all of the students and families that read and raised money for Honor Flight.

BOEING MATCH PROGRAM
Recently we've been asked about the Boeing Easy Match program for charitable contributions to Henderson Elementary. We are happy to report the school's account with Boeing has been established. If you or your spouse works for Boeing, contact your Boeing HR representative. Henderson Elementary will automatically receive your donation as well as the matching donation from Boeing.
We're also looking for new businesses to add to our list of supporters! If you know of another company that will participate in a matching program for Henderson, please contact Tiffany Smith at tiffhessel@sbcglobal.net with relative contact information.
